moss vertical garden x concrete work
was working on this integration since october. when discovered i have a wet problem in my old house which turned out to be legal prob -- takes time to solve it meanwhile the winter was coming. people are living literally on each other heads here because of the mountain landscape and economics, and it causes construction difficulties. so i decided to follow the water inside my house instead of fighting it. who fights the water?? who lives with a stream in the kitchen? and why our modern dwellings are mostly constructed in a way to control everything instead of creating a self regulating natural environment? i tried a few different techniques, grew some mold, and went for the material to the mountain nearby like 5 times... wasn’t easy but definitely was fun. now i carry it in my dreadlocks my food (tove and guests do too) my pockets my dreams. and lately i see more and more people collaborating with moss in tbilisi — isn’t it a sign it breeds in our minds? sometimes i’m busy with my little human deeds to water it properly but every time i return to it it fascinates me with simplicity and connection. these little drips and the immediate feedback of green substance are smth i can’t explain with words. the bathtub, kitchen table and toilet (which is more anatomically correct than usual i should say) — made from concrete are also my work. not that i wanted to make them, but i couldn’t find what i need aesthetically and physically here. the first trial of sculpting smth flat and straight really, not perfect and didn’t mean to be. one of my biggest inspirations in this sense is petersburg botanical garden — i really like those old wet half destroyed concrete pools covered with plants wildly. one of my goals for this project was to save as much of the essence & history of this house as possible.
